This site is devoted to the memory of Staszów Jews who perished in the Holocaust, in particular to memory of Sima Herszkowicz.
Staszów (also known as Stashev or Stasziv) is a small town in Poland (50°33' N 21°10' E), currently in Swietokrzyskie province (wojewodztwo). From 1815, under the Russian controlled Kingdom of Poland, part od the Sandomierz gubernia. From 1844 part od the Radom gubernia. After 1918 part of the independent Poland. During World War II in Generalgouvernement (district Radom).
Jews used to live in Poland for hundreds of years. To Staszów they arrived probably around the beginning of the 15th century. They liked the place so much they made it their home until they were murdered by the Nazis. You can trace the living Jewish Staszowers and their descendants here.
Please contact me if you have connections to Staszów, and I don't already know about you.
I have a lot more material and information about Staszów that is not available online.
